In the past, Loiu was 100% rural, nestling in the Txorierri valley and today famed as the home of Biscay's airport. This has meant a boost for the industrialisation of the area over recent years.

But there is much more to Loiu than simply being a town near an airport, the doors of the municipality are open wide to show its history and culture, for the leisure and pleasure of its visitors.

Churches, chapels, mills, palaces, country houses and typical Basque cuisine are the main attractions for visitors to this Biscay parish.
