Uribe Villages
FRUIZ
The parish of Fruiz offers walkers a totally natural landscape of meadows, vegetable plots and reforested woodland, scattered with country dwellings and farmsteads.
The surroundings make this the perfect place for hiking or biking, or for planning short excursions, taking in not only the natural charms of the area, but also a myriad of curiosities in every visit.
Close to the centre of the village we can visit a site of great geological value: a quarry filled with basalt figures which age-old sub-marine lava flows fashioned into grotesque forms.
In Fruiz there is one of the most exceptional examples of the monumental heritage of Uribe: the church of San Salvador. This is one of the few temples in Biscay to contain Roman remains, including a superb portico, which is one of the most interesting examples of its kind in the province.
