BARRIKA

Discover a picturesque coastal landscape with stunning cliffs and unique geological formations in a historic township known for its whaling past. Barrika off...

Barrika offers the visitor a spectacular coastal landscape, replete with sheer cliffs and curious geological formations, clearly illustrating the passage of time. At the foot of these cliffs are three wild and very different beaches which add to the great beauty of the scenery. We should not forget the last leg of the River Butrón, whose waters bathe this municipality over a 2 kilometre stretch.

Barrika is considered to be one of the most ancient townships belonging to the Lord of Biscay, and the numerous archaeological finds in the area bear witness to its many inhabitants over the centuries.

In addition to cropping and cattle farming, the inhabitants of Barrika were also great whalers, back in the day.

Today Barrika is a calm, welcoming enclave, ideal for nature-lovers and active tourists looking for a place to disconnect and unwind.
