The Best of Uribe
MARURI-JATABE
The foothills of Mount Jata are the perfect place to unwind and immerse yourself in nature and the welcoming village of Maruri-Jatabe.
Traditionally this area lived off its agriculture and livestock, and today you are immediately struck by the beautiful green of the landscape, dotted with fields and farmsteads, and the calm atmosphere of the place.
The surroundings are perfect for a variety of leisure and sporting activities, for example, the highly recommendable hiking footpaths and Mountain Bike routes.
You might be surprised to discover a battle-scarred landscape and the remains of what is known as the English Line, the old trenches, gun emplacements and refuges dug into the land backing onto Mount Jata to defend Biscay during the Civil War.
To get your strength back after your visits and excursions, Maruri-Jatabe has numerous establishments where you can taste the area's famous beans, washed down with txakoli or cider from the surrounding region.
